Released: April 18th, 2025 – Australia

Rae Leigh announces the release of their new single, "Country Pride" available 18th April 2025 in time for ANZAC day and theme song for the new documentary Bravery & Betrayal. Co-written and produced with Dave Laycock, the song is a poignant reflection on War’s enduring impact on soldiers and their families. The track draws from Rae's own experience growing up with a father who served as a tunnel rat in the Vietnam War, commissioned by Director of the film Simon J. Heath after hearing Rae’s story and song from 2024 “The War that Stole my Daddy’s life” written with Allan Caswell.

‘Bravert & Betrayal’is the True Story of the S.A.S. in Afghanistan

After 9/11 our Nation sent the Aussie S.A.S. into harm’s way to protect us. 25 years later, their suffering continues. The S.A.S. now tell their story of what really happened in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Featuring exclusive, never before seen interviews with officers and soldiers of the S.A.S.. As Prime Ministers Rudd, Howard and Abbott tell for the first time what they knew; and the brave pilots of the American Army reveal what they saw.

Most heartbreaking of all are the stories by the wives, mothers, widows, and children left behind.

This is their story, in their words, of the S.A.S. in the War on Terror.

"Country Pride" delves into the personal cost of war on the soldiers, inspired by the film and Rae Leighs lived experience with her Vietnam Vet father Robert Hewett, Dave and Rae put their heart and soul into this emotional heart felt song in tribute to the men and women who severed.

“This song is more than just a theme tune for a documentary; it’s a reflection on the brave Australians who made the sacrifice to better our country.

The True story of the Australian SAS in Afghanistan

BRAVERY & BETRAYAL

The True Story of the SAS in Afghanistan is currently touring Australian cinemas.

After 9/11, Australia sent the SAS into Afghanistan, and into harm’s way, to protect Australians during the War on Terror.

Some 25 years later, the hardship and suffering of what they experienced lives on with them. For the first time ever, the SAS are telling their story of what really happened in Afghanistan and Iraq through this unique documentary.

The film features:

·      Exclusive never before seen interviews with officers and soldiers of the SAS.

·      Interviews with three sitting Prime Ministers at the time of the conflict in Afghanistan - Rudd, Howard and Abbott.

·      Interviews with the brave pilots of the American Army who fought alongside our SAS.

·      The heartbreaking stories of the wives, mothers, widows and children left behind.

About the making of this film

Many of the 400 SAS soldiers that fought in Afghanistan feel their service and sacrifice has been forgotten amongst the turbulence of politics and negative headlines.

Produced by Australian film-maker Simon Heath over 5 years, and supported by veteran’s charity Wandering Warriors. the film’s development was initiated by ex-SAS serviceman so they could set the record straight, and tell their own story. More than 25 people were interviewed for the film in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, New York and Washington.

Quotes from ex-SAS serviceman involved in the film:

SAS soldiers were the first to deploy to Afghanistan, bore the brunt of the intense fighting, and were the last to return home - while also deploying to Iraq during the same period. We shouldered the heaviest combat to alleviate pressure on our fellow diggers and to support the broader mission objectives.

“By dismantling networks, gathering actionable intelligence, and nuetralising threats before they reached Australian soil, the SAS created a buffer that ensured Australians sleep safe at night - most without ever knowing how close the threats had come. What Australians are also not aware of is the sacrifices SAS soldiers and their families made due to the commitment required.”

“The SAS conducted 95%+ of the combat missions in Afghan - in excess of 3000 missions. It was either freezing cold - below zero temps, or extreme 40+heat. That’s just the physical side. Mentally you left your life, family and friends to risk your time and life for your country and fellow Australian military.”

“From time immemorial soldiers have been returning home from conflict changed. They see and do things not generally expected of the wider community. As a society we can sympathise, but rarely can we empathise. How do you explain your experiences? Most times you fall short, and this can be incredibly frustrating.”

“At their core, SAS soldiers are grounded in the same values as everyday Australians. They are fathers, brothers, sons and friends. Men who sacrifice time with loved ones to serve their country with unwavering dedication.”

“This documentary aims to set the record straight - to honour the service and sacrifices of SAS soldiers, expose systemic failures, and advocate for meaningful reforms in the treatment of veterans, both during and after their service.”

Rae Leigh is on a journey around the edges of country music and she’s taking us with her.

Her first single of 2022, the irreverent, quirky #1 HIT ‘Push Em Up Jill’, certainly got our attention, and the super hooky, with a message, ‘Blue Shoes’ also nailed the charts capturing the hearts of us all.

Her new single ‘Love Me’ is a smooth, sensuous song revealing another side to Rae’s personality where she expresses her experience and revelations of overcoming depression & anxiety and feeling confident in herself. Rae explains when everything seemed dark & hopeless, she learned to have compassion and love for herself. Rae Leigh is taking chances with her vulnerable storytelling and has a lot of fun doing it.

When writing ‘Love Me’ I was inspired by the relationship between people and nature. I love that every flower is unique and there is no need to compare them to each other.

Just like we appreciate all of mother nature, I wish people could love each other in this open and accepting way.

Blue shoes

Rae Leigh follows her Hit #1 single ‘Push Em Up Jill’ with a family fun song released on the 23rd of April 2022

Description

Following up from her success with her number 1 single “Push em Up Jill”; Blue Shoes dives into generational story telling, passing on the gifts of knowledge we have as women, to make us stronger and nurture the girls we are blessed to raise up.

“A story that has been shared for years and even at my wedding was my mum always wondering why there was lipstick all over her mirror in the bedroom, turns out younger me had been putting make up on the girl in the mirror and couldn’t understand why she kept moving! ” - Rae Leigh

Rae Leigh was inspired for the idea of this song after attending the 2021 Australian Songwriters Conference north of Sydney after sitting down to do a co-write with someone who didn’t show for the session she ended up writing it on her own.

Rae was working as an extra on the Young Rock the TV show when they bumped her to a singing role performing “Honky Tonk Man” as an 80’s Nashville singer.

As part of the performance Rae was asked to perform an original song as well. The crew were so impressed with the song they organized the song to be optioned and although it was not included in the final cut, if gave Rae the encouragement she needed to record the song professionally by the amazing team at Kross Kutt Records. You can still hear and see Rae perform on the Young Rock in episode 4 season 2.

“I’m really excited for this release after hearing it for the first time in 2021 when Rae had just finished writing it, i knew straight away it was going to be a very special song”

Push Em Up Jill

18th February 2022

Rae Leigh gets cheeky with her new single ‘Push Em’ Up Jill’. A comedy country song about a nurse from the 70’s that came about from a music festival in Queensland and a common love for country music, nurses and their sense of humor and what women have and how they use it.

This is Rae’s debut comedy country song showing us the lighter side of her personality that she picked up from her mum who was a midwife for 35 years and age care nurse for 15+ years till present.

“My mum was a nurse growing up and she always had a great sense of humour to help get through the up’s and downs of being a nurse, it’s a hard job and i have a lot of appreciation for men and women who dedicate their life to such an essential job”

‘Push ‘Em Up Jill’ is everything a song should be.. entertaining in the extreme, but a subtext recognising the strength of sexuality, and how easily it can be misconstrued in contemporary society.. Rae Leigh writes from a well-informed perspective with the perfect alchemy of feminine rights and current social mores.. basically, if you don’t get how good this is, you may want to recalibrate..’

James Blundell

“Funny, irreverent and musically clever… This track will get noticed. As an artist Rae Leigh is happy to take chances and it works for her”

Allan Caswell

“In the times we’ve been going through, I think we need a smile or a laugh more than ever now and Push ‘Em Up Jill is pure fun! Rae told Bill Whyte and I a true story that a fan told her about when she used to work as a nurse and it cracked us up. It was a hoot working on this with Rae.”

Just Like That

The excitement of a night out leads to too many drinks and a one-night stand that never ends. She falls into a long-term relationship that despite the passion and fun turns emotionally abusive. Using all the strength she has she leaves “Just Like That”

This song shines a light on the power struggle that occurs in gaslighting and emotional abuse within a relationship and has a powerful happy ending of a woman creating a life that she is in control of and driving into the sunset of her dreams. An inspirational message for women to create their own destiny and take their power into their own hands.

Saying Yes to Love

19th June 2020

Saying Yes To Love is an original song and will be her fourth single released on Spotify and Apple Music on the 19th June 2020.

Rae first performed this live at Tamworth Songwriters Showcase at the DAG. During her visit to Nashville she collaborated with Chuck Townz at the SongTown retreat and produced it with Corey Pryor and Jason Millhouse.

Rae has been writing songs as a form of emotional expression and therapy since she was a little girl but she never had strong core beliefs that she was good enough, worth being loved or protected. Rae has since discovered on her healing journey that this feeling is really common among women who were sexually abused as children.

This song is about learning to love herself by constantly saying yes to love. Rae know’s that if she does she will be a stronger and better mother for her children and have secure attachments in her relationships.

All I Can do

3rd January 2020

All I Can Do is a song Rae wrote with Peter ‘Smokie’ Dawson in 2015 at the DAG Songwriter retreat. Rae went there to process after being a state witness in a court case. It was one of the hardest things she has ever done. Pete was an amazing friend and support to her and helped Rae feel welcome when she felt so out of place.

Rae wanted to release this song to share with people and family in her home town of Bairnsdale. Rae knows lots of people are fighting to protect their homes and so many have already lost everything.
